SECURITY ALERT Rape

It was reported to Vanderbilt Police that a rape occurred sometime during the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 22, 2006. The victim, a student, reports that she went to an off campus party at approximately 10:00 pm on Monday August 21. After arriving at the party, the victim states that she does not remember anything until she woke up the next morning in her residence hall room.

A witness report of the victim entering her room with an unknown male subject, various types of physical evidence, and the memory loss of the victim indicates that unwanted sexual activity possibly occurred. The victim does not wish to prosecute at this time. However after consultation with the victim, she would like other students at Vanderbilt to be aware of the following risk reduction tips:

  • Do not drink from common container sources such as punch bowls
  • Do not drink beverages that you did not open yourself
  • Do not share or exchange drinks with anyone
  • Do not leave your drink unattended even to go to the bathroom, make a phone call, or go dancing
  • Do not drink anything that tastes unusual
