Timely Security Notice

VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY POLICE DEPARTMENT

CANCELLATION of ALERT VU

DATE: November 15, 2011

An ALERT VU Notice was sent earlier today in reference to a robbery on campus at Lupton Hall. VUPD issued this notice based on preliminary information in an effort to inform the community as quickly as possible of a potential threat.

The incident involved several acquaintances in a dispute. Though the incident is still under investigation, there is no ongoing threat to the campus community. Whenever VUPD receives reports of serious crimes or threats to the Vanderbilt community, every effort is made to provide accurate and timely information so everyone can make informed decisions about their safety. Because of this, complete information is not always available and VUPD puts out the best information available to us at the time and sends updates as the investigation evolves.

Alert VU is Vanderbilt University’s emergency notification system. It is available to Vanderbilt University students, faculty and staff on a voluntary, opt-in basis. Users may enter as many devices as they wish and specify the device order in which they would like to be notified. Students may also enter a contact number for a parent if they wish for a parent to be notified of emergencies at Vanderbilt.

Alert VU is the latest addition to emergency communications at Vanderbilt, and will be used only for emergencies posing an imminent threat or danger to the Vanderbilt community. Effective emergency response requires personal preparedness and planning. We encourage you to sign up for AlertVU at:
