Assistant Vice Chancellor & Chief of Police August Washington

The Assistant Vice Chancellor & Chief of Police directs and is responsible for the control of all police department operations in accordance with ordinances, policies and regulations of the Metro government and the University. The Assistant Vice Chancellor & Chief of Police reports to the Vice Chancellor for Administration. The Assistant Vice Chancellor & Chief of Police exercises direct supervision over the Assistant Chief of Police, the Major, Auxiliary Services, the Director of Finance and Administration and the Senior Executive Secretary.

Assistant Chief of Police

The Assistant Chief of Police oversees all aspects of patrol operations. The Assistant Chief of Police has direct supervision over the three precinct Majors and the Lieutenant of Accreditation/Compliance/Internal Affairs.

Auxiliary Services Division

The Auxiliary Services Division includes Support Services (Training, Special Events, Quartermaster), Special Operations (Criminal Investigations), Records and Communications, Information and Security Technology, and Emergency Preparedness/Contingency Planning.

Administrative Services Division

The Administrative Services Division performs a number of support functions that are critical to the ability of the Department to accomplish its mission. Included in the responsibilities assigned to this Division are budget, fiscal planning, and personnel management. In addition, the Division is responsible for facilities planning and maintenance. This Division reports directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor & Chief of Police.

Senior Executive Secretary

Cora Mitchell coordinates the day to day operations of the office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Chief of Police.  In addition to managing the Chief’s busy schedule, Cora coordinates all travel arrangements for the department, serves as the departmental photographer and web master. Cora has been a member of the department since 2006 and will soon celebrate 10 years with Vanderbilt. In her spare time, Cora enjoys camping, cooking and rescuing dogs in need.
