About: Support Services Bureau
The Support Services Bureau is commanded by a Major that reports directly to the Chief of Police. The Bureau is composed of three Divisions that provide a broad range of services that are in support of the overall mission of the police department.
Traffic Safety Unit
This Unit provides support to the patrol function. It is responsible for selective traffic enforcement activities and programs designed to reduce accident causing violations, as well as address traffic complaints. This Unit utilizes motorcycles and other police vehicles for their duties.
Pro-Active Crime Team (PACT)
PACT is responsible for conducting directed patrols and/or surveillance in targeted areas based on crime analysis. It also conducts enforcement programs targeted at overall crime reduction.
Special Events Unit
This Unit coordinates, staffs, and supervises athletic, student, dignitary and other events that occur on campus.
K9 Unit
The K9 Unit is composed of explosive detecting canines that are utilized for event and daily security checks. They also have tracking capability for suspects and missing persons. Service from the K9 Unit is available twenty-four hours a day.
Records Unit
This Unit is responsible for receiving, processing, filing, and maintaining police reports and other related documents. The Records Unit provides information and records assistance to the community and police personnel.
Communications Unit
This Unit provides round the clock dispatch service and alarm monitoring for our community for police services.
Technology Services Unit
The Technology Services Unit is responsible for the technology infrastructure and analysis functions that are a part of any modern law enforcement agency’s requirements. The administrator works to insure that the various computer systems in use in the Department are properly maintained and serviced.
Criminal Investigations Unit
This Unit is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations of reported offenses to include crimes against persons, fraud, and property crimes.
Office of Victim Intervention & Education
The victim services coordinator and volunteer peer advocates provide advocacy and support to victims of crime in the Vanderbilt community, as well as provide training and educational programs.
