Vanderbilt Police Department monitors burglar/panic alarms for facilities owned and/or operated by Vanderbilt University. The alarm services webpage page is designed for use by departments that are new or current alarm system users.

New Installations

  1. Contact Eric Heath at (615) 322-3207 or e-mail eric.m.heath@vanderbilt.edu for an initial survey of the proposed alarm location. The purpose of the survey is to make recommendations of potential alarm needs and requirements if necessary.
  2. If you decide to install an alarm system you should contact the appropriate department to arrange for installation. Departments are listed below under Alarm Services Maintenance.
  3. After the alarm system is installed a test should be conducted to ensure proper operation.
  4. Upon successful completion of the test, an orientation to VPD alarm response may be conducted with the account holder(s) upon request.
  5. After successful completion of the above steps active monitoring of the alarm by VPD will commence.

Alarm Test
Account holders should test their alarm systems periodically to ensure that they are operating properly. In order to test your alarm, the following steps should be taken:
  1. Call the VPD Communications Center at (615) 322-2745.
  2. Tell the Communications Specialist that you would like to test your alarm system. You should be ready to provide your name, alarm account number, and location.
  3. Once the Communication Specialist informs you that it is ok to test your alarm system, hang up the telephone and begin the system test.
  4. Typically a system test will require that you arm your system and trip any contacts, PIRs, panic buttons, etc. Once you have done this you can disarm your system.
  5. Call the VPD Communications Center at (615) 322-2745.
  6. Once again provide your name, alarm account number, and location. Inform the Communications Specialist that you are finished with your test. The Communication Specialist should be able to tell you if they received any alarms from your area.
