SECURITY ALERT Aggravated Assault

On September 25 at approximately 01:57 A.M. VUPD received a report of gunshots at Morgan Hall. Upon arriving on the scene, it was determined that three Vanderbilt University students were injured, one by a gunshot, following a party at Morgan Hall. The shots were fired by individuals, not affiliated with Vanderbilt, who were believed to have been invited by a Vanderbilt student.

The student who was shot was treated for the wound to his arm at the Vanderbilt University Hospital Emergency Department and was released. The other two students sustained non gunshot related injuries during the incident and were released by the emergency department. All of the injured students are members of the Vanderbilt Football team.

The Metro Nashville Police Department and the Vanderbilt University Police Department are investigating this incident.

Suspect Description:

Suspect # 1: Male black, 5'8", 170-180 pounds, short black hair, wearing a black shirt and dark pants. The suspect was armed with a handgun.

Suspect# 2 : Male black, medium complexion, 5'7" - 5'9", 130 pounds, black hair, with long braided extension (tails), last seen wearing an oversize white pullover shirt, baggie blue jeans with a design on the right leg, and black tennis shoes. The suspect was armed with a handgun.

  • Stay alert and TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS -- If you feel uneasy, leave. 
  • On or off campus, walk/jog/bike in groups of three or more in well-lighted and well-traveled areas; otherwise, after dark on campus, use the ESCORT SERVICE. (NOTE: Before parking on campus after dark, stop by the Police & Security Building at 2800 Vanderbilt Place or the ER.
  • Ask for an officer to meet & escort you from your parking space.)
  • Scan the area before you exit or approach your vehicle/building and while you proceed between sites.
  • Have your key ready in hand to quickly access the door of your vehicle/building.
  • If strangers approach, maintain a distance and be observant; if they are in a vehicle, get the license plate number.
  • Lock doors and windows of your room/building. Don't prop open doors, thwart security measures, or let strangers in.
  • Avoid going to ATM's alone, after dark, or if suspicious persons are nearby.
  • Think ahead about what you would do under dire circumstances. Try to get a description.
